Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo helped charge the way to victory over the Brooklyn Nets in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. With this win, the Bucks will have a chance to appear in the NBA Final since 1974. Without the leadership of Antetokounmpo, the question remains if the Milwaukee Bucks can overcome their history of playoff trouble.

It's doubtful that the two-time MVP will return for the rest of the series, let alone the whole playoffs. Without Antetokounmpo's leadership, the Bucks must look to a new leader. Khris Middleton seems to be the next man up as he carried the team to the win with his 38 points. It's a task Middleton has never been asked to do in his career but must. Jrue Holiday is another option, though he's been mostly on and off during this playoff run. Holiday may be asked to conduct the offense and get the defense together.

Roll players must also step up during this competitive series. Brook Lopez must be a danger not only as a shooter and on the offensive glass, but also as a roller and in the post. Forbes must be made available for 3-pointers after dribble-handoffs, pin downs, and pick-and-pops. Bobby Portis must also make his defensive presence in the paint without Antetokounmpo.

The Bucks are significant for the city of Milwaukee as they haven't been relevant in the NBA since the '70s. This team has been heartbroken too many times in the last decade of the NBA playoffs and this could be their best chance to win the NBA Finals. With leadership and role players doing their job, this Milwaukee Bucks could be the team to lift up the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

Heading into the 2021 NFL season, the New York Jets have a completely different look compared to last season. With an offseason full of new acquisitions, the Jets now have a new coaching staff for the most part and a whole lot of new players from free agency and the draft. There’s a new feel to this era of Jets football as head coach Robert Saleh has brought a whole new positive energy to the Jets that they have severely lacked with the previous head coaches. This upcoming season can truly be a turning point for the Jets as they hope to turn things around and play meaningful games all season long which they haven’t done in a very long time.

Joe Douglas deserves a lot of credit for pumping talent into the depleted roster the Jets finished last season with. This offseason has been huge for the Jets as it seems they made the right moves in free agency and the draft. Firstly, the Jets traded Sam Darnold to the Panthers and drafted Zach Wilson, and the hope is that Wilson will perform at a higher level than Sam Darnold ever did. Next, in terms of the wide receiver core, the Jets were able to improve their wide receiving core significantly with the free agent additions of Corey Davis and Kennan Cole along with second round draft pick Elijah Moore who has impressed thus far in minicamp. These additions along with Denzel Mims and Jamison Crowder make this wide receiving core, one of the most talented in recent Jets’ history. Furthermore, the defensive line has also improved as the Jets added their first true pass rusher in a decade with Carl Lawson. Along with Lawson, the Jets added Sheldon Rankins and Vinny Curry which bolsters this line even more. These new linemen with Quinnen Williams and John Franklin-Meyers could be an overall elite defensive line. The Jets also having CJ Mosley returning to the team, after only playing one game in the last two seasons, improves the linebacking room drastically. However, the Jets have not truly improved their DB room, but they drafted a ton of young defensive talent to hopefully make a positive impact on the secondary. Shifting focus to the offensive side of the ball once again, the Jets improved their O-line by drafting Alijah Vera Tucker at left guard and there are even talks that the Jets may acquire free agent Morgan Moses which will improve this O-line even more. This O-line should be much improved this season as left tackle Mekhi Becton and center Connor McGovern both had strong play throughout last season. The Jets have improved their running back room as well by bringing in free agent Tevin Coleman and drafting Michael Carter which can hopefully help the Jets establish a run game.

Robert Saleh shares the same mindset as Joe Douglas on building this team the right way with players that are of good character and have a strong work ethic. Most Jet fans truly believe Saleh is the right coach for this Job because he is a motivator that brings positive energy each day which can help the Jets establish a winning culture. It is truly refreshing to see a Jets coach that shows he cares for the team and is always motivating the players, something Jets fans did not see with Adam Gase or Todd Bowles. Overall, the Jets have improved in many ways this offseason, and it is very realistic for fans to believe this team will improve, because they will.

I do not know how they continue to do it, but the New York Islanders show up when it matters most and thrive in the playoffs. Even after going into the postseason on a low note, they continue to win and have given the insanely stacked Tampa Bay Lightning a run for their money.

It is crazy to think that not even a half decade ago, the Islanders were a complete mess. Their ownership and front office were incompetent, their arena situation was in limbo, and the on ice product was a total joke.

And especially after losing John Tavares in the 2018 offseason, who knew how low this team would go. Let the current version of the Islanders be a lesson as to why heart, hunger, and chemistry can result in major success for an organization.

When Barry Trotz took over for them in the 2018-2019 season, they did not just make the playoffs, they placed second in the tough Metropolitan division and even won a series. But they still had their flaws and questions, as their forward core was nothing scary and they got swept by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round.

This caused many, including myself, to believe that their run of success that year was a fluke, and that they did not have it in them to make the playoffs the next season. And while they did not exactly impress during the 2019-2020 regular season, they still made the playoffs, and the 2020 playoffs in the bubble is about when I really started to see them as legit.

If there is one thing they showed during that run, it is that they forecheck hard, continue to forecheck hard, and will not stop forechecking as hard as they possibly can. They made a killing off of this in their first round domination of the Washington Capitals, and it helped them come out on top in a hard fought seven game win against the Flyers.

They would fall to the eventual Stanley Cup Champions Lightning in six games, and despite their incredible run, there were still people who thought they might not make the playoffs this year. I personally believed in them enough to predict them to get first place in the East division, but came in fourth, and still had to prove that the year prior was not just a stroke of lucky momentum.

It is safe to say that they have quashed that thinking for good now. Even though they are coming off an 8-0 loss to the Lightning and find themselves tied 3-3 in the series as I am typing this, you still must tip your hat to what they have accomplished.

The Islanders are nowhere near the most flashy or talented team in the league, but they play to their strengths. And they do it effectively.

There are still going to be people who question if they can win a Cup with the way they play, and that is understandable. In the NHL, winning a Cup typically requires high end offensive talent, something the Islanders do not have outside of Matt Barzal, who while talented, is not exactly in the elite echelon of forwards.

But they have proven that they are built for the playoffs, as they have had repeated success. One thing they do have that most other teams do not is a coach who has the players completely behind him, and that has allowed them to sustain success with the play style they have.

I personally believe that they are more than capable of winning a Cup with the roster they have, if they were incapable of doing so, they would not have the track record they do. Remember (with the exception of one awful night) they are playing tough against a team that is $18M over the salary cap.

The Islanders went from having nothing to having everything, from an inspired on-ice team, one of the best head coaches in NHL history at this point, a reputable GM who acquires players who are built for the playoffs, and to two incredibly passionate owners in John Ledecky and Scott Malkin.

The most well-run organizations are typically the ones that come out on top in pro sports, and the Islanders are currently one of the most well-run organizations in hockey, from top to bottom. And one more thing, as a Nashville Predators fan, please please please get Trotz the Cups he deserves.
